A groundbreaking contemporary art installation titled Echoes of the Crypt has officially launched today, offering visitors a rare chance to explore the expansive, hidden architectural spaces beneath the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral. Created by a collective of prominent regional digital media artists, the large-scale exhibition transforms the cathedral's atmospheric, mid-century brick crypt using reactive projections, kinetic light arrays, and a complex ambient soundscape built entirely from recorded Mersey river tides and local industrial echoes. The unique project explores the deep structural and social connection between the city’s spiritual landmarks and its maritime foundations. Fine art critics and heritage tourists are flocking to the Knowledge Quarter to witness the display, which cathedral officials confirmed will run daily as a specialized ticketed experience until late January.
