The New Brighton RNLI and local coastguard teams were scrambled to the Wallasey Promenade shoreline late this morning after a dog walker became trapped by the rapidly incoming tide. The individual had ventured out onto the sandbanks to rescue their pet, which had chased a seabird, but quickly became surrounded by deep water due to the notorious tidal shifts in the River Mersey. Lifeguards deployed an inflatable inshore lifeboat to safely retrieve both the walker and the dog. Both were brought back to the beach uninjured but freezing, where they were monitored for mild hypothermia.
